Gombe National park, also known as Gombe stream national park, is located in the western Kigoma region, Tanzania, 10 miles north of Kigoma, the capital of Kigoma region.
Gombe stream national park is the smallest of Tanzania’s national parks: a fragile strip of chimpanzee habitat straddling the steep slopes and river valleys that hem in the sandy northern shore of lake Tanganyika.
Gombe Stream national park was made famous in the 1980s by British primatologist jane Goodall, whose work here brought the plight of chimpanzees to the attention of the world.
These days the Goodall foundation seems to have departed and the reserve has returned to being something of a backwater.
