Tarangire National Park

Located slightly off the main safari route, Tarangire national park is a lovely quiet park in northern Tanzania that is most famous for its elephant migration, birding and quiet authentic safari atmosphere.
Tarangire is a good-sized national park located just to the south of lake Manyara in northern Tanzania, often visited in combination with Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
The main highlight is an elephant, which masses here in enormous numbers during the dry season from June to December. The general game is also good, although predators tend to be quite difficult to find. Elephants are the main attraction with up to 3,000 in the park during the peak season months.
During the green season January to May, the Tarangire national park is beautiful, and still has reasonable levels of game and very low visitor numbers, making for a very accessible yet apparently remote safari experience.
The park contains some of the best top-end camps in the region, the best of which is probably Oliver’s camp, particularly well known for its walking safari. In a similar price bracket is the pleasantly simple lemala explorer Tarangire and the more conventionally comfortable Swala camp.
